PROMOTING ACCESS TO QUALITY BASIC EDUCATION 

Introduction

​This strategic objective focuses on promoting equitable access to quality basic education for all children, particularly those in deprived and hard-to-reach communities. It targets children of school going age and key stakeholders such as teachers, School Management Committees (SMCs), PTAs, and local communities. The approach combines improving access with strengthening the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that children not only enroll in school but also remain and achieve meaningful learning outcomes

Key Strategies​

SF1: Expand CBE and early childhood programmes to reach out-of-school children and promote right-age enrolment.

SF2: Promote inclusive education, especially for girls, children with disabilities, and disadvantaged groups through partnerships.

SF3: Strengthen quality teaching and learning through teacher professional development and institutional collaboration.

SF4: Improve foundational literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills using effective teaching models.

SF5: Drive social and behavior change to improve enrolment, retention, and completion, particularly for girls.

SF6: Enhance programme quality through research and evidence-based approaches.

SF7: Strengthen education delivery by promoting standards, accountability, and community engagement.

SF8: Improve learner outcomes by advocating for adequate teaching and learning materials.

SF9: Deepen collaboration with key education agencies to co-create and implement programmes.

SF10: Integrate climate literacy into education to build awareness and resilience.

Access to education

PROMOTING ACCOUNTABILITY AND SYSTEMS STRENTHENING IN THE BASIC EDUCTION SECTOR 

Introduction

​The objective aims at strengthening accountability and education systems to improve quality and equitable learning outcomes for all children. It emphasizes collaboration with key stakeholders including government agencies, schools, and communities to enhance transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness within the basic education sector. While addressing critical inputs such as curriculum delivery, teacher availability, learning materials, and infrastructure, the approach places a strong emphasis on improving student outcomes and ensuring the education system responds effectively to the needs of learners and their communities.

Key Strategies​​

SF1: Strengthen policy influence through evidence-based advocacy and media engagement.

SF2: Deepen stakeholder engagement to build partnerships and support for improved policies and programmes.

SF3: Promote social accountability using tools like PETS, CSC, and participatory budgeting to ensure transparency and effective service delivery.

SF4: Strengthen school and local governance structures (SMCs, DEOCs, SPIPs) to enhance inclusive decision-making.

SF5: Promote safe, gender-responsive, and inclusive learning environments by addressing discrimination and biases.

SF6: Intensify advocacy campaigns on quality education through collaboration with CSOs and development of policy briefs.

ACCOUNTABILITY

ENHANCING ACCESS TO ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS AND LIFELONG LEARNING 

Introduction

​This objective focuses on promoting lifelong learning by creating flexible and inclusive opportunities that respond to individuals’ diverse needs and circumstances. It prioritizes supporting those excluded from formal education particularly young people not in education, employment, or training (NEET) through non-formal education, vocational training, and life-skills development. By empowering learners and expanding alternative pathways, the approach aims to reach over 2,000 young people while addressing community-level barriers to quality education and improving overall learning outcomes..

SF1: Promote reading culture through community-based mini libraries and learner support.

SF2: Use digital tools and EdTech to enhance learning outcomes and digital literacy.

SF3: Build skills and competencies for out-of-school youth to support livelihoods and lifelong learning.

SF4: Strengthen financial literacy and inclusion to improve economic resilience.

SF5: Provide mentorship and coaching to support young people’s personal and career development.

SF6: Enhance employability through demand-driven skills training in relevant trades.

SF7: Increase youth enrolment in TVET and apprenticeship programmes.

SF8: Promote inclusive and environmentally sustainable TVET practices.

SF9: Raise awareness of alternative learning pathways and lifelong learning opportunities.

ACCESS TO ALTERNATIVE PATHWAYS
COMMUNITY DRIVEN APPROACHES

FACILITATING COMMUNITY-DRIVEN APPROACHERS FOR UNINTERRUPTED SCHOOLING  

Introduction


This objective is anchored on empowering communities to lead inclusive and sustainable education solutions that ensure uninterrupted access to quality learning for all children. It recognizes communities as central to programme success and builds on their capacity to take ownership of local challenges. By fostering active participation, the approach aims to strengthen resilience, adaptability, and accountability within the education system 
 

Key Strategies

SF1: Strengthen parent and community engagement as active partners in children’s education.

SF2: Promote indigenous pedagogy to make learning more relevant and holistic.

SF3: Support intergenerational learning through community-driven approaches and parent-learner engagement.

SF4: Enhance collaboration between schools and communities to build trust and improve learning outcomes.

SF5: Support community-based early childhood development through home-based learning initiatives.

SF6: Advocate against child labour, trafficking, and related issues to protect children’s rights.

SF7: Promote inclusive communities by addressing discrimination and encouraging positive social norms.

CREATING A RESILIENT AND VIBRANT SfL TO SUSTAIN OPERATIONS AND ENHANCE IMPACT

Introduction


The emphasizes for this objective is to build a strong, values-driven organizational culture that prioritizes both people and effective systems to achieve meaningful results. It focuses on strengthening internal capacity and fostering collaborations to enhance the organization’s visibility, sustainability, and overall impact.
 

Key Strategies​

​

SF1: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy targeting a mix of funding sources including local philanthropy and Social Enterprises.

SF2: Extend staff capacity on project management, documentation, and improved reporting, M&E, and data analysis.

SF3: Develop a comprehensive staff development plan to enhance culture and people management.

SF4: Boost operational efficiency and staff productivity by investing in modern office equipment and resources such as state-of-the-art computer systems, software, and related resources. 

SF5: Improve organizational visibility and reputation through effective communication strategies

SF6: Strengthen governance and transparency by ensuring a collaborative and accountable relationship between the Board and Management

SF7: Amplify impact and sustain a culture of continuous learning through a comprehensive tracer study of SfL alumni and nurturing the growth of an engaged alumni network.

SF8: Develop extensive capacity to generate high-quality evidence to drive advocacy efforts including those targeted at shaping government policies and programmes.

SF9: Institutionalize the SfL Annual Northern Ghana Conference and Lecture Series on Basic Education as a flagship platform for engaging local and national stakeholders to deepen dialogues and collaborations on quality basic education.

School for Life is a lead CSO offering relevant quality basic education to out-of-school children in deprived and hard-to-reach communities in Ghana. We work to influence national level policies and programmes by engaging with strategic states and non states actors through advocacy. In partnership with community level  structures, access to relevant education is accessible to all - leaving no one behind.
